Our Process – Architecture
Architectural Design
We believe that architecture conveys the spirit of place, that it has a profound impact on users and should be a clear representation of the positive aspirations and attitudes of the client. StudioGC leads clients and communities through a design process that focuses and prioritizes project goals. We translate these ideals into an original, contextual and sustainable design solution that takes advantage of synergies and appropriate technology, while cognizant of financial concerns and the range of people it serves and inspires.
Design Process
The design process is flexible, focused and tailored to meet the specific needs of the client and scope of the project. Scheduled opportunities for open discussion and collaboration with all stakeholders are the basis of design investigations that challenge preconceived notions and cultivate dynamic, novel solutions that are both meaningful and relevant to the culture of the organization or community.
Our process has been honed through many projects and years of experience to develop and present information in decision ready formats-drawings, graphics, models, spreadsheets, graphs, reports-that allow client assessment and action. Project schedules and activities are set to move the design from broad brush concepts to greater definition and detail by way of a client-architect feedback loop. Listening, discussing and sketching during client critiques provides the basis for progressive design refinement.
Our design efforts are not just focused on an ‘image’. We view design as an encompassing process of engagement that includes theory, analysis, synthesis, discussion, priorities, costs, solutions, revisions and re-revisions. It does not end until the client is operating in the facility and satisfied.
Engineered Systems +
An important component of a successful design solution is the integration of appropriate engineered systems and technology to support the project goals. These systems not only have a major impact on the overall cost but, are essential for a positive experience in terms of thermal comfort, accessible power, data and technology, natural light and even wonder. User experience is also explored at a tactile level in the treatment of interior colors and finishes for floors, walls, ceilings, and furnishings.
Modeling
Early adopters of Building Information Modeling (BIM), StudioGC is committed to accurate, 3D representation of building and interior design solutions from project commencement. This has a number of distinct advantages for the client:
- Views of the design in perspective format consistent with how people actually see things helps avoid disjunction between architectural graphics and client expectation.
- BIM allows for easy, natural reviews and clarification of design elements.
- Three dimensional (3D) coordination of architecture and engineered systems to limit potential construction conflicts.
- Adds another tool for the design and construction team to understand the final project goals and construction sequence for accurate estimating and scheduling.
